Supermarket Choo-choo

12.03.2002 | 4:00 pm

The train was all steamed up and ready to leave the terminal when we discovered the Mommy had left her wallet at home. The train at the supermarket, that is. We had busily worked all morning bathing, combing, dressing and sprucing up all the little kiddies, and loaded them all in the van, fastened them securely into car seats and had headed out to the market. Arriving at the store, we unloaded, strapped and secured everybody, again, into grocery carts and started the slow take-off toward the store. OOOPShold everything. no wallet, no money, no dinero. Reverse course. Everybody back in the van, fastened up and home we go to find the means of our sustenance. By this time it was 12:00 PM, and instead of the store, it was on to Wendys for lunch. Needless to say, after lunch it was home we went for it was definitely nappy time. After this trek to the outside world, everyone, including Granny was tired, and we all took a nap.

Three hours later, we will tried again. Load everyone up with sugary snacks and milk, pile in the van, strap in, and off we went to the piggly-wiggly once again. This time, we went to CONQUOR! The aisles of the store have never seen such a trainload of kids, cans, meat, bread, cereal, crackers, soup, chips, veggies, fruits, sauces, and goods, EVER! Mom and babe took the lead, Melanie holding on to Granny and Meredith was the caboose in our supermarket choo-choo. The little kiddos could not have been more angelic. Their behavior was exemplary perfection itself. Ill let you in on a secret: marshmallows in a baggie to keep the troops happy at the store. Each time I would pass out some of the soft, sweet treats, we recited: one, two, buckle my shoe, three four, close the door

One hundred twenty-eight dollars and hour later, we headed home to unload and put away our stores of food for the winter. Today I am cooking some six or seven meals to freeze for later use. I think thats pretty good for an old granny!
