Picture Day

Picture Day

Well, after ten years of teaching, this is the first time picture day has gone smoothly. It's a miracle! We got our pictures done before lunch so everyone looke "handsome and beautiful". Indeed, they all looked as sweet as can be. I feel fortunate this year to have a nice little class.

In years past I have had to deal with many kinds of social mis-fits. Last year one of my "little boys" was found making male"parts" with his clay and encouraging some others to do it too! It upset me so much to have to deal with that in first grade. Parents were called, and they all made a trip to the "Responsibility Room". The responsibility room is a place here at school to sent kids who are having trouble remembering and following rules. There they reflect on their behavior, and write and improvement plan for the future. After a 7th trip to the responsibility room, they experience in-school suspension. Last year my little "sculptor" managed to earn his 7th trip the day before a field trip. Too bad he missed the field trip1

Today my nephew is getting ready to leave for two years. He will be serving for our church in Alaska. To go from where we live to Alaska will be quite a shock. He is a good kid, and we will miss him.

When he gets on the plane he will travel first to Provo, UT for trainig. This will be for three weeks. Two other niece/nephews will pick him up in Salt Lake and take him down to Provo. It should be fun. We have a great BIG family!

So today in math we are returning to addition. Praise be!. something the little darlings can do. We will also be doing bean math. I have colored bead that I pass out. Yes, all 21 children have learned how to handle their beans withpout killing each other. They toss their beans, and whatever the color combination, they write an addition problem for their hand. Today we are working on 8 beans.

Beans, beans the magical fruit,

The more you have, the bigger your ....problem???

Oh well, poetry is out the window today.
