Curtain Up...

I am eating a homemade cookie from a friend of Marie. Her friend brought over a big plate of cookies. The cookies were a thank you for taking her family to the airport. The Ms really do have the nicest friends here in Pennsylvania. Their ward family takes good care of them when I cant be here. That is one very nice thing about our church congregations. We are organized in such a way that each family receives at least two visits a month from members in the ward to give a spiritual message and generally check up on each other and lend a helping hand. When Matt and Marie moved east about 18 months ago, it was their new ward family that helped them move not once, but twice. Likewise, when they were packing up to come out, their ward friends helped them get everything packed and loaded in Arizona. I am very grateful for their dedication to servicethese friends.

Tonight we went shopping for more fabric for curtains. I guess that will not surprise anyone. I, like my new friend, chailife was never able to teach my own daughters to sew. There are just some things moms cant do. *sigh* The French doors that lead out to the back yard from the Ms family room are covered with the most disgusting rags. We were able to find some very lovely cream-colored, sheer fabric, with a crinkled pattern woven through for the new curtains. Also purchased was new hardware to hang the new window dressings when the sewing is complete.

It was a tough time getting out of Hancock Fabrics tonight with any money left in our wallets. They had so many cute fabrics and panels for kids projects. I bought two panels for my new second grade classroom. One panel was a map of the United States and the other was a map of the solar system. The nice thing about fabric is that it just folds up and stores year after year, with little or no fading. Unlike paper bulletin boards, which need to be replaced almost annually. The newest invention from the realm of fabric heads is wonderful little soft books printed in beautiful colors. The instructions are printed right on the material. We were trying to decide between Beatrix Potters Peter Rabbit, Curious George, Bob the Builder, Raggedy Ann and Andy or Harry Potter. We gave up, finally, and decided to go for finishing the family room curtains and a quilt we started when Meredith was first a new member of the human race.oh well.

For the benefit of inkdragonHere is the recipe for

Hawaiian Haystacks
*Prepare 1 cups cooked, long grain rice however you prefer.
*Saut together: 1 lb. Cubed chicken breast, one clove minced garlic, 1 diced onion, 1 shredded carrot in your favorite type of cooking oil. Salt and pepper to taste. After chicken is cooked and onion is tender, add 1 can Cream of Chicken Soup with 2/3 can water. Simmer, stirring occasionally.
Prepare in small serving dishes: chopped green onions, cubed pineapple, shredded coconut, crispy Chinese noodles, diced tomatoes, cubed cucumbers, shredded cheese. Have Soy Sauce on hand.
to serve: Serve buffet style, allowing each person to build his or her own haystack. Start with a bed of rice, add sauce and toppings as desired. GOOD!
