The Big Blurr and a Bunny

04.21.2003 | 7:44 pm

This weekend was a BIG blurrr.I was really out of it due to tooth pain and medication. When my tooth finally woke all the way up, I was miserable. By Saturday morning I was on the phone to the dentist to get a stronger pain medication. We talked for a while, and it took some convincing. But in the end, I prevailed and he ordered a different antibiotic and Vicodin 750 mg. Both worked much better for my problems. Needless to say, I was a bit loopy most of Saturday and Sunday. I did manage to pull myself together for the family get-together so I could meet my daughters future in-laws. They were actually very nice people, and quite sympathetic toward my dental dilemma. Future SILs father is a retired engineer from Boeing. All the sons (five of them) are engineers of different sorts as well. Id say they are a pretty brainy bunch. I was able to nibble on some Easter dinner, which was the first solid food I had tried in two days. I felt much better, just getting some nourishment in me. The remainder of Sunday was pleasant. I tried to watch The Ten Commandments, but kept falling asleep. I finally gave up and went to bed about 8:30, which is highly unusual for my night owl ways

The nut tree was calm for the sugar high I know they all must have been coming down from. We had computer lab and Art today, so very little academic work was accomplished. The computer specialist taught the squirrels a task on the computer today, using some desert animal pictures and the truck tool. It was so funny to watch him pull the remaining, slim hairs from his bald head as he attempted to get the squirrels to alphabetize a group of pictures. This would not normally be hard, except that first graders do not learn to alphabetize to the second or third letter. I consider that a second grade skill. Unfortunately the guy had two sets of pictures beginning with the same letter. I watched him suffer through the process of trying to get the squirrels to answer his queries. He was so frustrated. Finally, I quietly told him we had not learned to alphabetize to the second letter. A big OH escaped his mouth, and he quickly told them how to do it. By this time, we were out of time and he was frustrated because we were not able to complete the project. Oh wellso much for computer experts.

I once visited the country home of Beatrix Potter, author of The Tale of Peter Rabbit. I always do a literature study of her works and her life. We began the study today. The children are always fascinated with her stories and enchanting drawings. It is a favorite time of year.spring, Peter Rabbit, and only four weeks of school left.
